Metalsmithing Workshops *Select Type and Dates*
The Intro to Metalsmithing Workshops at Cottonwood Silver and Lapidary are a series of workshops designed to continue offering topic-based metalsmithing classes for our community. With a growing interest in the craft and shifting opportunities in the metroplex, we offer 3 different project-based Intro Workshops that can be taken in any order with some situational context. Read on!
THE CORE THREE CLASSES:
1. *Intro to Metalsmithing: RING
Learn how to size, cut, file, solder, and set a round cabochon stone on your ring stacker set. Learn a variety of finishing techniques and walk out the door wearing your rings.
2.Intro to Metalsmithing: PENDANT
Learn how to make a brass bezel around an oval cabochon or bring your own (stone size is 1” or less- please email size and shape inquiries to LyndseyRieple@gmail.com), solder your brass pendant and bail together, set your stone, and assemble your pendant onto a chain- walk out the door wearing your new necklace.
3. Intro to Metalsmithing: EARRINGS AND BRACELET
EARRINGS: Learn texture application, prong or small bezel setting (4-6 mm) soldering and finishing techniques. BRACELET: Learn the basics of metal forming and riveting. Depending on class progression, I adapt the bracelet into a bangle or hinge/clasp style. The earrings are a brass/sterling silver combination project and the bracelet is in brass.
Note: This class might be more for those looking for a design approach, filled with options for texture, asymmetry vs. symmetry, contrast, and more creative features.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you really would like an all silver experience, there is an additional fee and situational context- please contact me at LyndseyRieple@gmail.com. If you would prefer to use your own stones, please contact me at LyndseyRieple@gmail.com.
* The Ring class was the original introduction class which Lyndsey has taught in Wyoming, Oregon, and now Colorado. From there, 85% returning students filled the pendant classes. We now offer the EARRING OR BRACELET class which add to existing skills or can be taken as a new student.
Classes are regularly priced at $195 for new students which includes all equipment, tools, AND materials. Returning students always get $30 off your next workshop regardless of the time of year!
3-4 student classes
Tuesday/Thursday evenings, 5-8 pm, occasional specialty Saturday Workshop
All equipment, tools, and materials provided (mostly brass, some silver)
Handouts with terms, helpful tips, and resource guide provided
Whether this is a fun (and challenging) workshop to take with a friend or the beginning of your silversmithing career, you will have newfound skills and resources for further growth by the end. Or is it the beginning..?

Q: Why isn’t this workshop on the Cottonwood Center for the Arts website?
A: These are non-affiliated private classes that are operating based on a community focused partnership between Lyndsey and Bonnie (Cottonwood Silver & Lapidary)
Q: Will there be studio availability after the workshop is over so I can practice?
A: Yes! Hourly drop-ins are encouraged with prior communication and planning at $30-35/hour.
You would be responsible for your materials, and you would have access to tools and equipment that we go over in the workshop.
